Jeremy Clarkson was left devastated after revealing he had to send his beloved cow Pepper to a slaughterhouse.

The former Top Gear star, 63, has swapped fast cars for farming in recent years, with cameras following his efforts after buying land in the Cotswolds and establishing his Diddly Squat farm.

Over the past few years, Jeremy has faced many challenges, including heartbreak when he had to deal with the loss of some of his animals.

However, he has now shared that a cow he had sworn to save to allow him to continue enjoying greener pastures has sadly been killed.

In the show’s second season, Jeremy took a shine to Pepper after Rosie, the five-year-old daughter of his former owner, a cattle rancher, asked him to look after her.

But this season, he shares that he couldn’t keep his word.

‘He’s my pet. Five-year-old Rosie from the farm where we bought her said that this cow was her favorite,” he said in one of the previous episodes.

” She asked, “Would you like to take care of Pepper for me?” ”So I said I would.

Later in the season, when a vet concluded Pepper wasn’t pregnant, someone suggested they send her out to get meat, but Jeremy replied, “I don’t eat Pepper, and ‘is all.”

But in the upcoming third season, which hits screens this week, he must make the difficult decision to get rid of her as he and farm manager Kaleb Cooper decide to raise pigs, which means that half of his cows, including Pepper, must be taken away from him.

Sharing his emotions following Pepper’s death, he said: “I find today really, really sad.

“Pepper is going away, obviously – what do you think will become of her?

He then faces even more heartbreak when many of the pigs he bought also begin to die, leaving Jeremy and his partner Lisa Hogan in tears.

During a recent press event for the series, Jeremy recalled how they died “in alarming numbers.”

“It was very heartbreaking, I had never seen Lisa, not once, until it all started,” he said.

“It was just terrible. I mean, they’re still dying, but we’re getting more used to it now, we’re a little more robust.

He added that they were now “a little bit stronger to deal with it”.

Season 3 of Clarkson’s Farm launches Friday on Amazon Prime Video.
