South Police say a 17-year-old boy has been arrested for attempted murder following an incident at a school in which three people were injured.

Officers attended Birley Community College in the town at 8.50am on Wednesday morning after receiving reports of an incident involving a sharp object.

A child and two adults were injured and received medical treatment.

The 17-year-old boy was arrested and remains in police custody.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested following reports of three people injured at Birley Community College in Sheffield this morning (Wednesday May 1),” a South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said.

“Officers are on scene after responding to reports of a sharp object incident at Birley Lane School at around 8.50am.

“Two adults were checked on the spot after being slightly injured. A child was also checked after being assaulted.

“A 17-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and remains in police custody. Police will remain on site throughout the day to reassure students at the school and the local community.

“We will provide further updates as soon as possible.”
