TalkSPORT pundit Darren Bent has now taken aim at the “strange” news he heard coming from Forest this week.

A difficult campaign for the Reds has been marred by a number of refereeing decisions which have not been favourable.

Frustration at the City Ground has been evident throughout the campaign, with the club making its anger publicly known.

Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis is now expected to take legal action should Nuno Espirito Santo’s men fall this season.

Knowing Luton Town had picked up a point on Friday night, Forest were well aware of what needed to be done today against United.

And Nuno’s side did exactly what was needed of them at Bramall Lane to move three points clear of the Hatters with two games remaining.

But what happened off the field is what has left Bent perplexed after what unfolded in recent days at the City Ground.

Darren Bent left perplexed by what Nottingham Forest did

Three points against Chris Wilder’s side was just what Forest needed to ease their nerves after seeing Luton pick up a point last night.

Callum Hudson-Odoi and Ryan Yates scored the goals earlier today as Forest took a major step towards their side’s Premier League survival.

What lies ahead in the remaining two games will decide what awaits Forest ahead of what could be a busy summer off the field.

With the owner threatening legal action against PGMOL if Forest goes down, there could be a really complicated few months of waiting.

However, today’s result has ended some discussions with VAR for the time being, with Forest now going into their final two games knowing that one more win would realistically be enough to keep them going.

Speaking on TalkSPORT on Friday, the former Premier League striker spoke about the whole situation around Clattenburg at Forest.

“It was a bit… I didn’t really understand why. Besides, I don’t understand what difference it could have made anyway. You’re going to get a decision or not. I just find it a little strange, but again, I don’t think it worked very well,” he said.

“Anyway, I don’t know what they were hoping to gain from this appointment, because it’s not like, all of a sudden, having an umpire there is going to make a difference in the decisions. Whether he was there or not would have had no effect on getting better results against Everton.

Mark Clattenburg’s appointment was nothing short of a disaster for Forest

Whatever Forest’s intentions, hiring Clattenburg left them with real egg on their face.

It has now been claimed that this appointment could even have angered PGMOL, with the club having since seen a number of terrible decisions go against them.

The appointment saw a number of pundits criticize Forest’s actions following the Everton debacle, with Gary Neville calling for the former referee to resign from his post.

“The reason I asked him to resign is because if he actually saw that tweet from Luton, he actually needs to distance himself from it or be part of it. If he’s one of them I’m like wow,” the man told Sky Sports.
