Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has made a rapid return to the team as Nottingham fights in a relegation survival battle with just two games remaining, Soccernet.ng reports.
Awoniyi, who suffers from recurring injuries, has been out for a long period, missing seven matches, which has affected his contribution to the team’s survival campaign.
Despite Awoniyi’s ongoing physical struggles, manager Santo expressed optimism in a press conference ahead of their crucial clash against Sheffield United.
While acknowledging that Awoniyi is not yet fully fit, Santo highlighted the striker’s potential impact, particularly in the team’s quest for crucial goals.
“We are aware that he is not at his best level, but he can certainly be a useful player for us in these final moments,” Santo said.
Surprisingly, the former Union Berlin striker made a quick return earlier than expected in the match against Sheffield United, where Forest were leading 3-1 at Bramall Lane.
Awoniyi entered the match as a replacement for Chris Wood, who had been active for the team during Awoniyi’s injury.
