Poole residents complain after council resurfaces pavement

Residents of Stanley Green Road have been left frustrated by the works, which have been described as a “cheap solution”.

The homeowners claim the sidewalk was left with holes showing the old sidewalk underneath and footprints and tire marks in it, as well as rocks that created a tripping hazard.

Stanley Green Road resident Peter Cook, 74, said: “It’s a pile of rubbish because it’s up and down, it’s all rough and there’s mess behind it too.

“From a distance it’s pretty and underfoot it’s not slippery or anything, but it’s just a disaster, everything’s uneven.”

Peter complained that, at a time of financial difficulty for the council, he did not think it was worth spending, saying the council was “wasting its money” on it.

Another resident expressed fears that the summer heat would melt and cancel the work anyway.

She said: “I think in the summer it will melt anyway. I don’t find it too serious, but I think that in the summer, that’s where we’re going to have a problem.”

The resident and her husband moved onto the street in January 2024 and said they thought the sidewalk needed repair.

However, her husband said the work had not fixed anything and could have made the situation worse.

He said: “It hasn’t really filled any holes or anything, in the ideal world everything should be scraped and leveled properly.

“I don’t really think it affects us too much. Ultimately, it just seems like a cheap and easy way to spend money.”

Even though they were recently removed, weeds were already noticed growing on the sidewalk.

A BCP spokesperson said: “These footpaths are part of a key route in our Local and Walking Infrastructure Plans (LCWIP) due to their proximity to Stanley Green Infant Academy. Our work there will make it easier for residents to walk or drive to school.

“Any defects, such as scratches, footprints or brush marks, will disappear quickly as the surface stabilizes.

“This material costs approximately 10% of the equivalent traditional method of sidewalk resurfacing and lasts for many years. »
