Plymouth’s incredible nursery praised by Ofsted four times in a row

A Plymouth nursery has been praised by Ofsted for the fourth time. Little Blossoms Day Nursery has been rated ‘good’ in every inspection carried out by the education watchdog since moving to Winnicott Close in Plymouth in 2010.

Southway Nursery was inspected on March 7 and was rated ‘good’ in all four categories it was inspected in, including ‘quality of education’, ‘behavior and attitudes’, ‘development personnel” and “leadership and management”.

The Ofsted report describes the setting as having a “calm atmosphere” and “helps children to have positive attitudes towards playing and learning together”.

Parents praise the nursery staff, highlighting their ability to help newcomers integrate into the environment and pledging to work closely with students and parents to ensure better educational development.

The report said: “This continues as staff work closely with parents to support children’s development at home. Parents are impressed by the positive progress made by children and feel fully involved in their learning. »

The inspector also noted how “babies are very content as staff sensitively soothe them to sleep” and that students and staff share a “strong bond”.

The report continues: “Staff provide good support to help children manage their own feelings and behaviors. For example, they intervene quickly when they notice possible disagreements and set an example by sharing and taking turns.

“Staff help children develop a healthy lifestyle and follow good hygiene habits, such as brushing their teeth after meals. Children are physically active indoors and outdoors.

“They grow in independence as they take on tasks such as getting dressed to go out. Children beam with pride as staff commend their efforts. This helps them to continue their future learning with confidence and assurance.”

The inspector noted that students who fall into the SEND band will find that this nursery tackles these barriers with great enthusiasm and understanding.

The report adds: “Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is important. Managers spend funds effectively to ensure that all children have access to the curriculum. Children can move between different areas of the nursery according to their preferences. and specific learning needs.

“The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) works well with other professionals and provides valuable advice and support to all staff. Staff skilfully organize small group activities which provide targeted, positive support when children need it. »

The arrangements made at Little Blossoms for safeguarding are effective. The report states: “There is an open and positive culture around safeguarding which puts the interests of children first. »
