Gary Lineker speaks out on Forest’s FFP appeal as Alan Shearer delivers relegation verdict

-

Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer have delivered their verdict on the Premier League relegation battle involving Forest, ahead of Sunday’s match against City.

The Reds are just one place and one point above the drop zone, in 17th place, with four matches remaining, starting against Pep Guardiola’s champions at the City Ground today (4:30 p.m.) .

Lineker stressed the importance that Forest’s appeal against their four-point deduction for breaching Premier League financial rules is resolved quickly, while Shearer believes Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are ‘in the driver’s seat’ to stay standing, ahead of Luton Town and Burnley, who are in 18th and 19th place in the table.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Lineker said: “It’s going to be close and I’m bringing your attention to Nottingham Forest’s last game of the season, or Burnley’s last game, that’s Burnley v Forest.

“I think with the four point deduction for Forest they have an appeal pending. I think they really need to resolve this call before the end of the season. We cannot see camps relegated by an appeal committee. You probably have to do this first, surely? »

Shearer replied: “I agree. And they also put United away and you said Burnley were away in the last game of the season, so I think Forest, without a doubt, are in control and will probably just have had enough.
