The 54-year-old actor, who is married to Miley Cyrus’ mother Tish Cyrus, said he feared he was suffering a brain hemorrhage after an iron bar smashed his skull.
He did not say when the accident happened or what he was filming at the time.
Sharing a graphic photo of his injuries on Instagram, he wrote: “NO IT’S NOT MAKEUP.
“When an iron bar breaks your face and splits your skull. You fix it and move on.
“I often come back to this moment in #Morocco. I was filming a scene.
“One minute I’m running, the next a huge force explodes on me. My stuntman @johnnymacstunts came running to my side and told me. ” that doesn’t look good. Your nose is broken and I can see your skull. I answered. ” It’s not good”.
“The fact is, I thought for sure I was going to have a brain hemorrhage, pass out and die. I found it funny that my end was in the desert, without a hospital doing what I love most.
“On reflection, it was the way I accepted death that always intrigued me. I guess that’s just it. I accepted it.
“Now here I am. Another witness to the mysteries of life who writes about it.
“Accept. Advance. Continue. I guess?
“What other option is there to live.”
Purcell rose to fame in 2005 as wrongly incarcerated inmate Lincoln Burrows in the hit television series Prison Break, which also starred Wentworth Miller.
He also appeared in the television series The Flash and Legends of Tomorrow, and played Dracula in Blade: Trinity.
He recently became a tabloid staple for his high-profile romance with Cyrus.
The couple married in August 2023 at the home of Cyrus’ popstar daughter Miley in Malibu, California.
