He spoke after shadow transport secretary Louise Haigh MP announced Labour’s detailed plans to reform Britain’s railways and nationalize most services.

She said a Labor government would integrate existing private rail contracts with Great British Railways when they expire, without the taxpayer paying a penny in compensation, as part of a passenger-focused public railway.

Jonathan Hinder, Labor candidate for Pendle and Clitheroe, said: “Labour’s plans would mean an end to the misery faced by northern passengers crossing the North West on a weekly basis.

“I am committed to championing the reopening of the missing 11-mile link between Colne and Skipton, to help unlock economic opportunities in East Lancashire.

“Like many constituents, I would like to use our train services more often, but we all know they cannot be relied upon in our area.

“Many more people could travel to from Clitheroe, or to Preston from Colne, if they had a reliable rail service.

“That’s why I support Labour’s plans to create Great British Railways – a new expert-led public body to run our railways in the public interest, putting passengers first.”
