Popular ‘Coffee and Chat’ group launched in Wrexham

A brand new friendship group has been launched in Wrexham following the success of other similar projects in the area.

Deeside Oddfellows, which runs a range of affordable and accessible events across North Wales and Chester, is bringing its popular ‘Coffee and Chat’ group to The Lemon Tree restaurant so residents have the opportunity to meet people like-minded people in the city.

The first meeting took place on Wednesday April 17 between 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m. The regular coffee morning will continue at the same time and place on the first and third Wednesday of each month. The cost is according to the menu. Our next meeting is May 1st.

The launch follows similar events run by Deeside Oddfellows in Saltney and Llandudno, which proved popular. Other events being held are a walk to Loggerheads on Monday 20th May 11am day trip to the Iron Works in Oswestry on Tuesday 18thth June and the Oddfellows Brass Band perform a free concert at Venue Cymru, Llandudno on Sunday 26th May at 3 p.m.

Denise Turner, branch secretary at Deeside Oddfellows, said: “We have a number of ‘Coffee and Chat’ groups which are always very busy, with people from all sorts of different backgrounds and interests.

“We believe it is important that people have the opportunity to come together and connect with other friendly people in their community, which is why we are delighted to welcome the people of Wrexham to this new event.

“We know a thing or two about friendship here at Oddfellows. We’ve been supporting each other for over 200 years, so why not come and discover all the great things we have planned and how we can help and support you?

Deeside Oddfellows is made up of 490 local members, mostly elderly and retired, and everyone is welcome to join. It is one of 99 branches that make up Oddfellows’ national network, one of the oldest and largest of its kind in the UK.

The Society aims to improve the lives of its members through friendship and support. In addition to its events, Oddfellows members can access a variety of benefits, including care and welfare and a travel club. There are also opportunities to participate in fundraising and volunteering initiatives.
