Wayne Rooney lands new job in first major role since sack

Wayne Rooney has landed a new role after being sacked by City in January.

In October 2023, Rooney was confirmed as manager of Birmingham after leaving DC United in MLS.

However, it was a disastrous meeting as the Blues fell from sixth place in the Championship to 20th.

After just 15 matches, Rooney was finally dismissed by the club, who now face relegation from the Championship before the final matchweek.

Since his sacking, Rooney has made appearances in various media outlets as a pundit, but has now announced his new role.

Writing on social media, the former United and England striker wrote: “I’m delighted to announce that I will be joining my good friend @GNev2 and the team at @WeAreTheOverlap to appear on the channel across some of their brilliant shows on YouTube. and the podcast.

“I can’t wait to get started – head over and subscribe now!”

Rooney is set to join his former teammate Gary Neville, alongside Jamie Carragher, Roy Keane, Jill Scott and Ian Wright, who are regular presenters on the podcast.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano was also asked for the Rooney announcement, he said in a video: “Latest news in world …Here we go!” Manchester United, Everton and England legend Wayne Rooney has signed a deal with The Overlap.

“The agreement is concluded and signed. Rooney will join his friends and ex-teammates Gary Neville, Roy Keane and the rest of the squad and will make his debut very soon. Wayne Rooney at The Overlap, here we go!

Before joining The Overlap, Rooney worked as a pundit and was in the Sky Sports studio when lost to Everton in the Merseyside derby last week.

Last month, Rooney also appeared on TNT Sports as a pundit when United faced Everton at Old Trafford.
