If 2023 proved anything, it’s that the DCEU was in desperate need of a reboot. like Shazam! Fury of the gods, The flashAnd Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom were disasters, and these very strong box office numbers confirmed that fans had reached the end of their relationship with the franchise.

Warner Bros. Discovery formed DC Studios in late 2022, bringing in filmmaker James Gunn and veteran producer Peter Safran to oversee a new slate of projects set in the DCU.

Of course, this doesn’t sit well with everyone, especially since it meant saying goodbye to some fan-favorite actors. Steel man Star Henry Cavill tops the list and his stint as Superman ended in less than perfect circumstances.

After his Black Adam cameo, Warner Bros. gave the actor the green light to announce his return as Superman. A few months later, Cavill was fired because Gunn, now the head of DC Studios, wanted to cast a new Kal-El for his reboot.

Since then, we have learned the SUPERMAN Helmer had planned to tell a Man of Tomorrow story as early as 2021. This somehow led to the emergence of a conspiracy theory that Gunn had always planned to oust Cavill and take over the DCEU.

“I don’t quite understand how this fits in” said the DC Studios co-CEO, responding to a fan on Threads. “Aside from the fact that I had no interest in running DC until Peter decided to do it with me so he could handle executive duties. [and] I could focus on creating, and when I was hired to write Superman, it was always conceived and presented as a new Superman story. »

“So why would I lie and say I didn’t plan this when Squad premiered, which would have amounted to the same thing in the end? How does this particular conspiracy theory make sense?”

Gunn continued to push back on some wild accusations that stemmed from Nathan Fillion accidentally saying he was cast as Guy Gardner in The suicide squad first when in it happened at Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 A.

The whole thing is pretty bizarre and there’s clearly no truth to the fact that Gunn has a secret master plan to take over this franchise. However, the fact that he’s bringing back many of the actors he worked with in the DCEU, while moving away from Cavill and Ben Affleck (who, like Zack Snyder, have a rabid fan base) doesn’t help matters .

SUPERMAN tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that considers kindness old-fashioned.

David Corenswet plays Man of Steel, while Rachel Brosnahan has been cast as Lois Lane.

SUPERMAN Currently scheduled to hit theaters on July 11, 2025.
