A wealth of information has leaked about the Sony Xperia 1 VI revealing almost everything there is to know about the smartphone. Specifications, camera network, features; you name it and it’s probably there. According to news site MSPowerUser, the device is expected to run on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset and a 5,000mAh battery that would last two days on a single charge. On the front is an OLED screen. It’s unclear exactly how big the screen will be, but it’s said to have an aspect ratio of 19.5:9, which is smaller than the 21:9 aspect ratio of the Xperia 1 V.

As impressive as these specs are, the real star of the show is the software. MSPowerUser claims that Sony combines its Photography Pro, Videography Pro, and Cinema Pro apps into one useful tool. The report emphasizes that this is a decision apparently “inspired by [the company’s own] Alpha series cameras.

Like the Alpha range, the Xperia 1 VI could receive “human pose estimation technology”, giving it the ability to focus on people even if they are not facing the lens or are obscured. Sony is even apparently planning to introduce an app called Video Creator, simplifying the video production process and helping users create content.

Camera upgrade

Previous leaks indicated that Sony wouldn’t make any changes to the Xperia 1 V’s camera system. It turns out that might not be the case. MSPowerUser doesn’t say how many megapixels the main wide-angle camera will be. However, they say it will have a 24mm lens supported by an “Exmor T stacked CMOS image sensor for mobile”. This allows the camera to behave as if it were a 48mm lens with 2x optical zoom.

Next to it is an ultra-wide-angle camera with a 16mm lens and a telephoto option that has a 95-170mm lens. The latter is capable of 7x zoom. MSPowerUser also mentions that the company claims that photos taken with the Xpera 1 VI’s main lens will rival those taken with one of their full-size cameras.

Notable Features

Beyond the camera array, the report states that the smartphone will have a wide range of audio enhancement software, including support for the DSEE Ultimate upscaler. The company’s developers are improving the device’s speakers so that they are able to better deliver “bass and clarity.”

Return to the screen. Sony may implement several gaming-centric features. Chief among them is the 240Hz touch scanning rate which ensures fast response times. Players will also be able to enable FPS Optimizer to keep the game’s frame rate high. All hardware will probably cause the phone to heat up. To keep things cool, the Xperia 1 VI is said to have a vapor chamber.

The images you saw are from the user https://twitter.com/MysteryLupin/status/1786306410713698752 on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) who recently published a series of photographs they claim are of the new phone. What’s interesting about the whole thing is that all the files match the images seen in MSPowerUser’s report, so Lupin’s message may be legitimate. Of course, take everything you read here with a grain of salt. Things can always change. The publication states that the phone is “expected to launch on May 17.” It is unclear how much this will cost.
